The Seattle Seahawks struggled in their early years, failing to record an AFC West Championship and never finishing higher than 9-7. Things changed in 1983 when the team played Cinderella all the way to the 1983 Conference Championship with a 9-7 record, to their division rival, the Los Angeles Raiders.

A 12-4 season the following year saw the team go down to the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Divisional Playoffs. It would be the Seahawks’ last playoff win for twenty seasons and their last playoff win as members of the AFC. They would win only two division titles in 1988 and 1999, but were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.

Taking things National in 2002, the Seahawks, now members of the NFC West, would get hot, winning four straight division titles between 2004 and 2007, culminating with a Super Bowl loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2005.

In 2010, they became the first team in NFL history to win their division with a 7-9 record, heading into a bout with the St. Louis Rams at 6-9 that season. Despite the mediocrity, the Seahawks surprised everyone in 2012 with an 11-5 record and a playoff appearance before finishing the job in 2013, upsetting the heavily favored Denver Broncos by a score of 43-8 to capture their first Super Bowl Title.

The Seahawks returned to the Super Bowl the following season in a narrow loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX in what many regard to be the greatest Super Bowl in NFL History.

Since the Super Bowl loss, the Seahawks have remained relevant but have failed to return to the big game. A team known for its defense earlier in the decade has since shifted to offense, and we’ll see what the future holds for Russell Wilson and his new-look team.
